Weather Impact on Vulnerable Populations - Helpful Resources  

Dear parents and families,

Recent weather conditions in our state have been extremely stressful on our communities. People are likely to be anxious and tense, especially those experiencing mental health problems and those with significant impairments.

The California Department of Health and Human Services (CalHHS) has created the CalHHS Emergency Resource Guide. The guide includes information to help prepare for emergencies, including winter storms. In this guide, you will find suggestions to prepare a personal emergency plan, how to prepare medical devices that require electricity, and information about available mental, social, and health care services.

The department of Student Support Services provides referrals, coordinates services, and develops programs that support the continual growth and development of children, families, and schools in improving educational achievement for all students.  Prevention and intervention support services are provided through collaboration and cooperation with interagency partners and private agencies within Stanislaus County.  The department’s purpose is to coordinate support services and programs designed to educate the whole child cognitively, emotionally, and socially so that each student becomes a productive citizen, prepared to live and work in our global society.

Student Support Advocates

Student Support Advocates, working at SCOE Alternative Education and Charter school sites, facilitate and monitor support services to students and families with various issues relating to academic success, including physical health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, mental health and related issues.  Student Support Advocates can provide resources and referrals for pregnant/parenting teens, foster care and help for students struggling with homelessness.  They work with classroom teachers, support staff and administrators to develop and implement goals for students and monitor progress toward success.
