Are you a friend, neighbor, family member, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. (age 18 or over) caring for at least one child that is five years old or younger? If so, come play with us! Tuesday mornings during the month of June.

Young Scientists Prepare for Regional Science Olympiad

Budding young scientists from throughout the region are gearing up to participate in the 38th Annual Stanislaus County Regional Science Olympiad slated for March 11, 2023, at Modesto Junior College (West Campus Science Center). The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and will end with the awards ceremony, held inside the Agriculture Pavilion, at 4:30 p.m. More than 500 students representing area junior and senior high school students will participate in the day-long event. The public is invited to attend. Admission and parking are free.

Announcing the Top Elementary School Spellers in Stanislaus County

Top spellers from area schools competed in the Stanislaus County Elementary Spelling Championship on November 30 and December 1, 2021.  Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, the Elementary Spelling Championship for children in grades 4-6 took place virtually on November 30, 2021.  The top spellers advanced to the Competition Round held the following night at the Martin G. Petersen Event Center in Modesto.  Chris Dempsey, La Loma Junior High School educator, served as the Spelling Master and volunteers from each school site served as proctors.

Valley Charter High School to Host Virtual Open House

With social distancing and an uptick of COVID-19 cases in Stanislaus County, Valley Charter High School (VCHS) is hosting two Virtual Open House’s in July via Zoom. The school, located in Modesto at 108 Campus Way, is currently enrolling students for the fall semester, which begins on August 11.

Stanislaus County School Districts Announce School Facility Closures through End of School Year

Schools in Stanislaus County originally said the earliest students could return to school would be May 4.  Schools now have further guidance and directives from State Superintendent of Instruction Tony Thurmond and Governor Gavin Newsom to keep school facilities closed through the end of the current school year.

Stanislaus County School Districts Announce Extended School Closures Through May 3, 2020

Many areas in California, including Stanislaus County, are experiencing an expanding outbreak of respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19). When public schools closed on March 19, there were only 2 known cases and 19 pending test results in Stanislaus County.  Today, there are 12 positive cases. To prevent further spread of COVID-19, the Stanislaus County Office of Education, in collaboration with the 25 school districts in the county, and the Stanislaus Public Health Department, is announcing that school closures are extending through May 3, 2020.
